A Chartered Accountant, He was Managing Director of Companies in the Motor Trade.
He served in the Royal Flying Corps as an Engineering Officer (Tech)
He was seriously injured in a Motor Accident on 30/07/1918 in France and was evacuated to England on 21/08/1918.
He was declared unfit for any duty 19/11/1918
He relinquished his commission on 24/01/1919 on account of ill health, but was allowed to keep his rank
