Captain Gilbert Raper Frere Adj10th Bn.,Rifle Brigade died of wounds on 26th October,1915.
The Son of Ernest Rowland Frere and Elizabeth Charlotte Frere of St. George's Lodge, Cockham, Berks. Educated at Haileybury College and Brasenose College, Oxford.
He is buried at Merville Communal Cemetery.
He is additionally commemorated on the Haileybury College Cloister War Memorial, Herford Heath.
Gilbert Raper Frere was born on 24th June 1888, at Kensington, London, and baptised on 28th July1888 in Kensington. Educated at Haileybury College 1901-1907 and Brasenose College, Oxford(Captain of Boats) Entered firm of Solicitors in Lincoln's Inn Fields as an articled Clerk. He was unmarried, joined the Rifle Brigade in 1909 and retired in 1913.He is noted as a Private, no 3489 Royal Fusiliers on his Medal Index Card before being commissioned into the Rifle Brigade. He was badly wounded by shellfire at Laventie and died of wounds at the casualty clearing station at Merville.
