3428 Pte Joseph Frederick Joseph Gamgee "A" Coy 1/8th Bn., Middlesex Regt was killed in action on 26th June, 1916 aged 17
The Son of Joseph Hayes Gamgee and Louisa Gamgee, of 34, Cross St., Hampton Hill, Middlesex.
He was born and lived in Hampton Hill and enlisted in Hounslow.He is buried at the Hebuterne Military Cemetery.
Frederick Joseph Gamgee was born on 27th March 1899 and enlisted 04/09/1914 as a drummer at the age of 15! He arrived in Egypt on 24/08/1915.He saw action against the Senussi and Turks.On the 13th June 1916 the 2/8th were disbanded and transferred to the 1/8th Bn., Middlesex Regt. The Btn were sent to the Somme, opposite Gommecourt. He was killed by enemy shell fire along with 4 others, 25 being wounded.
