Chief Refrigerating Engineer George Megson,M.V.Pacific President (London) Merchant Navy, died on 2nd December, 1940.age 50.The Son of Henry and Clara Ann Megson;husband of Grace Hutton Megson, of Bridlington,Yorkshire.
He is commemorated on The Tower Hill Memorial.
George Megson was born in Newport, Yorkshire, in 1890.
He was living at 170, Castleford Road, Normanton,Yorks when he received his Medal.
He is also entitled to The British War Medal, 1939/45 Star,Atlantic Star and 1939/45 War Medal.
The Pacific President was built in 1928 and was owned by Furness,Withy and Co Ltd, Liverpool.On 2nd December 1940 she was carrying a cargo of Ballast from Leith to New York as part of convoy OB-251 when she was west southwest of Rockall she was struck by two toepedos launched by the German submarine U43- commanded by Wolfgang Luth. She was lost with all 52 crew members.
