Lieut John Herbert Jump M.C 4th Battalion The Loyal North Lancashire Regt was killed in action on 15th September,1917.The Son of John and Isabella Jump, of Mill House, Longridge, Preston, Lancs.
He is buried at Erquinghem-Lys Churchyard Extension.
He joined the Liverpool Regt (no 4468) and was commisioned into the L.N.Lanacashire Regt.
He was awarded the Military Cross, London Gazette 26th September 1917, and citation published in London Gazette 9th January 1918: 2nd Lieut John Herbert Jump, N.Lanc R.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.Having led his platoon with great gallantry and coolness in a raid on the enemy's lines,he again showed splendid leadership in repulsing the attack of twenty-three of the enemy, whom he charged with the bayonet.His personal gallantry inspired his men, and his coolness during a confused fight resulted in the re-organisation and orderly withdrawal of his platoon.
