John Clarkson Phillips Maynard was born in 1864 in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
A Civil Engineer,he worked at the N.E.R. in Darlington and later (1888) on The Bengal-Nagpin Railway as assistant Loco Supt, and on the B.N.R. India.He joined The Institute of Civil Engineers in 1890.By 1906 he was in South Africa living at Wohuterskop, Pretoria Transvaal.
He was appointed temporary Captain Royal Engineers L.G. 22nd September 1915.
Ceased to belong to the Royal Engineers on transfer to an Entrenching Bn 22nd Feb 1917.
L.G 10th July 1918 to be acting Lt Col while Commanding a Bn 28th May, 1918.
L.G. 15th October 1919.
Temp.Maj.J.C.P.Maynard relinquishes his commission on account of ill health contracted on active service 9th September 1919, and retains the rank of Maj.
