Comes with two original photos and several copied photos, an original envelope sent to him at R.N.Barracks, Portsmouth, original ribbon bar, and copies of original paperwork including Seaman's allotment note, Certificate of Identity, Certificate Extract Relating to Death of a Seaman, Medal Receipt slip, War Badge award slip, etc., and 3 Naval badges.
Charles Bearpark was born in Harrogate, Leeds on 30th July 1890..He enlisted i the Royal Navy on 20th January 1909.He first served on H.M.S Nelson, later serving on H.M.S. Philomel and qualifying for the African General Service Medal and The Naval General Service Medal(copy of Medal rolls supplied with group) Also pre-war service on H.M.S .Bonaventure (see copied photos) and then H.M.S. Maidstone (see original photo) His WW1 service included H.M.S. Arethusa.
He was invalided from H.M.S. Victory after being put on Light duties at the R.N. Barracks (see copied related paper) He was awarded the "Services rendered" badge no R.N.5384 (copy of a cert dated 20th December 1916 supplied) He then went back to Sea!-His copied Seaman's Allotment Note sates that he was engaged on Blakemorr, London as a Fireman this dated 16th June, 1916.He was on the S.S. Dunrobin on 24th November 1917 when she was sunk by U-53 (Hans Rose) and is presumed to have drowned. CWGC states: Charles Bearpark S.S."Dunrobin" (Newcastle) Mercantile Marine died on 24th November 1917 Age 26.The Son of the late Abraham and Eliza Bearpark (nee Wright) of 25, Russell St., Oatlands Mount, Harrogate. He is commemorated on The Tower Hill Memorial. Also entitled to a 1914/15 Star trio.
