William Stone was born in the parish of St Phillip and St.Jacob Without, Bristol,in 1837, and attested for the 23rd Regt. in 1853, aged 16 years.He is also entitled to the Crimea Medal with Alma and Sebastopol clasps,and the Turkish Crimea Medal.
He was wounded at the battle of the Alma,in the left shoulder and leg on 20th September 1854.He joined the 12th Foot in 1869,and was discharged in 1875,being unfit for further service.
