Commissioned Lieut,North Staffordshire Regiment,9th September 1882,then Staff Corps and st Bombay Lancers,Squadron Officer and Adjutant.1st October 1886,Captain 9th September 1893;Major 10th July 1901.Superintendant of Remount Depot, Hosur.Lieutentant Colonel 31 May 1907.From indian Army Services:
Lt Colonel G.C. M'D Birdwood served with the Burmese Expedition in 1885-89 (Medal with two clasps).Served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in 1898 with the Tirah Expeditiony Force as orderley Officer 2nd Division (Mentioned in despatches,Medal with 2 clasps).
He was appointed as a Commander of the British Empire,(London Gazette 03 June 1919-Birdwood George Christopher Mc Dowall,Remount Service).An online forum mentions that he was still district remount Ofiicer for Surrey in 1924.Died Wells, Somerset in 1944.
